Intentional Camera Movement with the Glitchy 1€ camera, 19 March 2023
Since learning about glitch art, it's something I have really wanted to try. The snag is that most glitch art involves partial destruction or modification of answerable, which I am reluctant to try. Partly because I'm not very good at soldering and, for the Gameboy especially, I really don't have the nerve to destroy my precious Gameboy camera.
Then I remembered that the little #shittydigital 2MP Vivitar camera I had picked up from CEX for 1€ had a little foible: after a photograph was taken there was a brief pause before the image was written to the card. What this meant was that I had to hold the camera steady after I had taken a photograph. If I was a little too fast I ended up with some unintentional camera movement. This was inconvenient for regular photography, but I thought it was almost natural glitching.
So I thought I would go out and this time would deliberately move the camera when making images. Results were mixed. I got some nice distortion, and even on regular photographs there was a nice orange cast, not unlike a light leak, but my results were never as good as the accidental abstracts I got when I took out the camera the first time.
