A trip to the beach with the Olympus Camedia C-100

This week has been a little stressful. From last Sunday until yesterday the north of Portugal has been ravaged by wildfires. We were relatively safe, although the best thing we could have done is stay home and shelter from the smoke and ash that rained over the countryside. However, we had to venture out on Tuesday to pick up some stuff from Barra, so we took the opportunity to stop in the seaside town of Vagueira for lunch.

Of course, I had to take a camera with me and this day I chose to take the wonderfully glitchy little Olympus Camedia C-100 digital camera. The sensor is failing in the Camedia and I reckon that it's overexposing by around 10 stops. I've invested in a cheap Neewer ND2-400 variable ND filter and it works! The images are also really hazy and have a glow about them.

After lunch we took a walk along the sea front where I took some photographs of the beach and surrounding buildings, including one of my favourite buildings. The sky was overcast and smoky but surprisingly it was quite clear. There were even a couple of people sunbathing, or rather 'sunbathing' on the overcast beach.

From Vagueira we went to the surf shop in Barra. Here the smoke was much heavier, with Ash falling from the sky. We didn't spend so long there, and quickly headed home.
