The Wilderness Project
There’s a lot of countryside in Portugal that defies the traditional sense of beauty, as defined by the normal idea of landscape photography. This is not a record of beautiful sunsets or tremendous landscapes, rather it is a reflection of the impact that man has had on the countryside, from derelict buildings to industrial wasteland and scrubland.
In Portugal at the moment (2019) there has been a lot of comment on man’s impact on the environment as a result of the horrific wildfires that has wrought so much destruction to the countryside. Here, therefore, I hope to show that no matter where one points a camera, the odds are that it will either be where man has altered or destroyed the environment around him or where mother nature is taking back what was once hers.
